On the Sino-European Cultural Industries Cooperation Seminar & Workshops of ICIF 2011 at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center, Shenzhen, China on May 14, 2011, Sybil Wu of en.cnci.gov.cn had an interview with Ms. Livia Meldolesi, an Italian fashion designer.

Sybil:
Good afternoon. My name is Sybil Wu. I am from the Website of China Cultural Industries. I would like to interview you and ask you a few questions. First of all, can you introduce yourself and your company?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
I am Livia Meldolesi from Italy. My company is Kala Rav. Fashion Design Studio, specialized in all directions of fashion design. It was born as a graphic studio that provides graphics such as pattern for T-shirts, jackets, and labels for the clothes company. It can also work as a trans-studio that creates work collections which the clothes design select fabrics, the patterns, the fitting projects to bring the clothes direct to the fashion show. We started in 2001 and it is 10 years now. Kala has always been at the forefront of the Italian fashion since it was founded.

Sybil:
Is it the first time you have been to Shenzhen? What do you think about the city?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
Yes, it is the first time I come here. I don’t know, because we arrived two days ago, and we stay always at the fair and probably we will see tomorrow.

Sybil:
And what do you think about the ICIF fair? What kind of role do you think it can play between exchange of the fashion areas (of Italy and China)?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
O.K. The fair is very nice. If you open next year, (I hope) there is something more about fashion, because now there is nothing on fashion.

Sybil:
So you hope the fair will add a section of fashion so that the fashion designers can use this platform to exchange their works?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
Yeah, I hope so.

Sybil:
And what do you think of the fashion design level of China or the situation now in China?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
I think it is nice. I saw (the fashion design in ) Shanghai and Beijing and they are very very beautiful and also in Hong Kong, but it is very different because (the fashion design I saw) in Hong Kong were brands from Europe and it’s not China fashion, but I saw (the fashion designs in) Shanghai were very very beautiful brands and new design so that’s grown up. It is becoming a beautiful trend now.

Sybil:
Did you say you came from Italy?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
No, no, no. I came here last year and I have been here before. It is three years since I have been to China.

Sybil:
So you have been working in China for three years.

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Sybil:
Originally you are from which country?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
I’m from Italy.

Sybil:
Can you introduce more about the characteristics of the fashion in Italy?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
It’s very hard. (laughed) How can I explain you in two minutes? (laughed)

Sybil:
For example, what kind of colour usually do the Italian people prefer, maybe for summer or for winter?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
Every year it changes, the colour. Now I finished the Summer 2012 and I am working, after the Winter of 2012, for 2013. It’s very hard to say to you which colour. (laughed)

Sybil:
About your company, is it an Italian company? Do you ever think of a joint venture and work together with the Chinese factories?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
I am a fashion designer so I work for a lot of companies. Like a fashion designer, I work like freelance for a lot of companies. For China, I work for a company like design patterns, so I design patterns like this. You can see. (showing a brochure.) For other companies, I design collections, so it is a lot of different things.

Sybil:
And what do you think of the Chinese market for fashion?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
I think there is a future for all of us.

Sybil:
Good. If you are invited to come to ICIF again next year, will you come?

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
Yeah, obviously I will come.

Sybil:
O.K. Thank you very much for accepting this interview. And I hope your fashion design career will be very successful.

Ms. Livia Meldolesi:
You are welcome.
